Copyright affects freelance workers, or self-employed writers. Copyright means giving the right of the creator to permit, or forbid others from copying their work. It allows the creator to earn a living by earning their own ideas and concepts. The “author” is the one who is the first owner of copyright in their work. The word “author” is established as a copyright law to cover all sorts of different creators such as writers, composers, artists, photographers and designers, etc.
The copyright generally lasts for a whole life-time, estimated 70 years in which it would be likely the “author” would be deceased.
To prevent copyright, it would be best to become a membership of an organizations such as BECTU. To process your Script you can send it in to BECTU Head Office. The union will then log the Script, seal it and return it to the member for safekeeping.
The union will not archive scripts or keep copies.

What I have learnt from this website is that quite a lot of ideas can get stolen, and in order to prevent this from happening you would have to register and get a membership. Sending in your original script is very helpful so it will prove that if someone has taken your idea then you will have evidence.
